What is Slow Food?

Slow Food USA is a non-profit, eco-gastronomic, member-supported organization that was founded in 1989 to counteract fast food and fast life, the disappearance of local food traditions, and people’s dwindling interest in the food they eat, where it comes from, how it tastes, and how our food choices affect the rest of the world. To do that, Slow Food brings together pleasure and responsibility, making them inseparable.

The members of Slow Food Santa Cruz are a diverse group of food enthusiasts with a curiosity about food traditions, heritage, and local artisanal products.  To become a member of our convivium, please go to the website of Slow Food USA and sign up for membership there. Slow Food USA will notify us of your membership, but to be sure we include you in our programs as soon as possible, you may also contact us directly.

Slow Food USA is part of the global Slow Food movement creating dramatic change in more than 160 countries. In the US, there are more than 150 local chapters and 6,000 members.
